You can travel the world and you can see quite a number of birds and they are all interesting. But you can also sit in your kitchen with a cup of coffee or tea in hand and look out your back window and notice the birds in your backyard. You may not have a backyard but a courtyard, or nut much greenery at all, but if you just look outside your domicile, you will find birds. Wherever you live there are a variety of birds, some of which will frequent your immediate surroundings. And the variety of birds you see will change from season to season. You can just observe them as just another part of nature out there or you can take an interest and start to identify them by their physical appearance (or their songs in summer when you are outside more). Maybe get a pair of binoculars.

if you do develop an interest in your feathered visitors, even a mild one, you might wish to attract more birds. There are lots of ways to do this. Three of them are easy and you can read my other blogs on them for more information: get some bird food and put up a bird feeder, put up some bird houses, and install a bird bath. The most effective way to attract more birds, and a bigger variety as well, is to landscape your yard to attract birds. There are lots of ways to do this and a future blog will get you started.
